KARAKTERISTIK GENERASI DIGITAL NATIVES DALAM LINGKUNGAN DIGITAL. STUDI KASUS KAMPUNG DIGITAL VOKASI UI

Abstract


ABSTRAK
Data menunjukkan bahwa Indonesia dengan populasi penduduk sebanyak 268 juta jiwa, memiliki
pengguna mobile devices mencapai 355 juta orang (133%), dimana 91%-nya mengakses informasi melalui
mobile phone. Mobile phone rata-rata digunakan untuk berselancar di platform seperti Youtube (88%),
WhatsApp (83%), Facebook (81%), Instagram (80%) dan Line (59%).
Dominannya aktivitas warga di dunia digital, tetap meninggalkan kesenjangan antar generasi. Pendekatan
inklusi digital yang berbasis tiga dimensi yaitu access, affordability and ability (Suwana, 2019) merupakan
salah satu upaya untuk memastikan bahwa konsumsi informasi dan media dapat dinikmati oleh siapapun.
Kampung digital Vokasi UI adalah salah satu inisiatif mandiri warga kampus dalam upaya mendiseminasi
pengetahuan digital bagi seluruh generasi.
Penelitian di kampung digital menemukan bahwa digital native memiliki karakter yang berbeda dengan
generasi senior (digital immigrant) yang menjadi kunci keberhasilan pembangunan masyarakat digital
yang cerdas seperti di Australia. Studi ini menemukan bahwa digital native adalah anak kandung
peradaban digital, namun mereka masih memiliki kelemahan dalam adopsi teknologi yang produktif.
Kesenjangan digital ini tidak dapat dibiarkan, bila Indonesia ingin terus sejajar dengan negara-negara
maju lainnya.
